Today’s journey will take you from Jaipur to the city of Agra – home to the iconic Taj Mahal. Built by artisans from all over the region, this epic mausoleum is embellished with mosaics of semi-precious stones and calligraphy. Just 40kms outside Agra, stop to wander deserted plazas and streets in Fatehpur Sikri. Built by the Mughals in the 15th century and abandoned within 20 years due to a lack of water, the ornate buildings and palaces are remarkably well preserved, offering a somewhat eerie insight into the grandeur of the Mughal Empire at its peak. The day concludes on arrival into Agra, look out for the effect of the setting sun on the city’s pink walls as you enter before checking into your hotel and relaxing with free time this evening.
