Is Explorations by Norwegian worth it? Real guest reviews
What makes a cruise holiday one you’ll talk about long after you’ve returned home? For guests sailing with Explorations by Norwegian, it’s a combination of things: the chance to visit incredible destinations, the ease of always-included beverages, specialty dining and wifi, and the welcoming atmosphere onboard small-ship Regatta.
It felt like cruising with mates
“Three days onboard and I am hooked… It is so refreshing to travel with like-minded people from our part of the world. The staff and ship are wonderful and after a busy day in port it is so lovely to return to our home away from home and enjoy a coldie with new friends who get our sense of humour. Love it so much we have booked Miami to New York next year,” said Sharon, Explorations by Norwegian guest.
Crafted by local cruise experts, Explorations by Norwegian is a first-of-its-kind cruising experience that blends the best of river, ocean and expedition travel into one seamless voyage. Everything from bucket list worthy itineraries to the effortless onboard experiences was created with Australian, New Zealand and UK travellers in mind.
Itineraries awaken your inner explorer
From eight nights to full-year voyages, each itinerary has been carefully timed to discover destinations at their most spectacular. From Japan’s cherry blossoms and the Mediterranean before the crowds, to the Northern Lights at their peak, every sailing was designed from a blank world map, guided by a simple question: where is the best place to be, and when?
“We’re doing Rome to Athens… What we liked about it is it had quite a bit of Italy, and then Croatia, and a little bit of the Greek Islands as well. It incorporated a lot of different places,” said guests Kylie and Paul.
At every port, guests can choose from three exploration styles: active experiences like walking, cycling or kayaking, discovery experiences such as dining with a local family or learning directly from regional producers, and classic highlights that deliver the icons people want to see. The intention is simple – not just to visit a destination, but to explore it on your own terms. It’s the difference between seeing a place and truly immersing yourself in it.
“We’ve curated some real off-the-beaten-path, unique destinations, as well as some of those mainstream favourites. We want our explorers to walk away with a deep connection and understanding of where they’ve been,” explained Dr Dean Allen, Explorations Ambassador.
Experienced cruisers said it’s great value
A few years ago, cruising started moving in the wrong direction. Itineraries became repetitive, and inclusions that once defined the experience quietly slipped into the ‘optional extras’ column. If you’re flying fourteen hours to get somewhere, you’re not doing it to rush through four ports and come home with a bar bill. Two guests compared it to other cruises:
“You can look at other cruises that may be cheaper, but when you get on there you’ve got to pay for everything. Even though we’re not big drinkers, we just like to know everything’s included. [The service] was very, very attentive, that’s for sure. We’ll stick with the Regatta – it had a big wow factor. It was very upmarket, very elegant, very impressive. All of the areas were really high end,” said guests Kylie and Paul.
Bonus Onboard Value on Explorations by Norwegian means a specialty dining, beverage and wifi package is always included.
“What is included that people are surprised about? The specialty restaurants. [Explorations] offers inclusive specialty restaurants… What’s included is much more extensive than most other cruise lines,” explained Victor Conceição, Explorations by Norwegian General Manager.
Guest raved about the food
Onboard Regatta, there’s no saving the ‘best’ restaurants for a special night. You’ll enjoy specialty dining and always-included beverages across a collection of thoughtfully curated restaurants, each with its own culinary identity. From an Italian restaurant with family recipes on the menu to a classic steakhouse with prime cuts, dining feels considered and flexible rather than crowded.
“We like to go out and eat a lot, a lot of degustation-type food… it’s really nice to see the two specialty restaurants… You can go to the dining room and have your meal easily without having to line up. The desserts were lovely… The entrées were outstanding… the wines were lovely,” said guests Kylie and Paul.
For longer journeys, variety is key, so the specialty restaurants change over, adding a French Bistro and Asia Fusion option. With no fixed schedules to interrupt your exploration, these refined dining experiences are available after a day onshore or between onboard activities for guests to enjoy:
“Food is amongst the best we’ve had on a cruise” – Vincent.
“Quality, quantity and variety of food was first class” – Gary.
“Fantastic quality of food and presentation” – Sharon.
“All our dining experiences were outstanding” – Jennifer.
There’s plenty to do but it doesn’t feel crowded
Entertainment onboard Explorations by Norwegian is designed with local travellers in mind. Familiar performers who know the songs you love create an atmosphere that feels relaxed rather than staged. Intimate performances, spa experiences and expert talks unfold across a range of onboard spaces, offering variety well suited to extended journeys. Here’s what guests say about the performers who make it feel that way:
“World-class entertainment” – Worrick.
“Entertainment has exceeded our expectations” – Wayne.
“The showband were first-class, very talented musicians” – Gary.
“Dr Dean has been fantastic and we are loving his informative and entertaining presentations” – Tina.
You can’t beat small-ship service
Regatta is small enough to access ports that larger ships have to bypass, yet big in value with all the amenities a seasoned cruiser expects. A spa and gym, multiple dining venues and a martini bar are all brought to life with exceptional service.
“Regatta is small enough to feel personal but large enough to offer variety. Her size also allows us to visit smaller and more interesting ports that would not always be accessible to the very large cruise ships,” said guest Tony.
“It has been an amazing experience so far… So much packed in a great little ship,” added fellow guest Leon.
According to guests, the crew will know your name on the first day. Then, shortly after, they know your order:
“We love how the staff make you feel welcome and always greet you by your name… they make us feel like family” – Kerri.
“The staff are all exceptional! They are tremendously friendly, efficient and professional, and far exceed the standards of all other cruises I have done” – Melanie.
Spacious staterooms were a pleasant surprise
Regatta’s staterooms are calm, comfortable sanctuaries that invite you to slow down and feel at home anywhere in the world. Each suite and stateroom has been thoughtfully updated with fresh finishes and a serene colour palette inspired by the sea and sky. Sophisticated touches like plush bedding and quality linens support the best rest so you have plenty of energy to explore. Here’s what guests had to say:
“I was pleasantly surprised by the cabin size and comfort level” – Gary.
“…beds comfortable, we’ve loved it so much we have booked another cruise on this ship for 2028” – Gary.
“Our room steward has been excellent. Always friendly and helpful and the room is kept immaculately” – Jillian.
