Adelaide – Kangaroo Island

Meet your tour leader and fellow travellers this morning and journey south through the scenic Fleurieu Peninsula before boarding the ferry to Kangaroo Island. Today is dedicated to exceptional wildlife encounters and pristine natural landscapes. At Seal Bay Conservation Park, enjoy a guided beach walk alongside a wild colony of Australian sea lions, observing these remarkable animals in their untouched coastal habitat. Throughout the day, keep watch for iconic native wildlife including kangaroos, wallabies, koalas and echidnas. Enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch and time to explore unspoilt beaches and native bushland before regrouping this evening for a shared dinner.

Kangaroo Island – Adelaide

Explore the dramatic western end of Kangaroo Island today. Visit Flinders Chase National Park, stopping at Cape du Couedic Lighthouse and the remarkable Admirals Arch, where fur seals bask on rocky platforms below. Continue to the iconic Remarkable Rocks, shaped by millions of years of wind and sea spray. After a gourmet picnic lunch surrounded by rugged coastal scenery, return to Penneshaw for the ferry back to the mainland and onward to Adelaide.

This morning, transfer to Adelaide Parklands Station and board The Ghan, one of the world’s most iconic rail journeys. Settle into your cabin as the train glides northward, leaving the city behind and entering the vast outback landscapes of South Australia. Lunch on board marks the beginning of an exceptional culinary experience, with menus inspired by seasonal Australian produce. Spend the afternoon relaxing in the lounge or enjoying the changing scenery. As night falls, savour a beautifully prepared dinner paired with Australian wines as the desert skies deepen beyond your window.

The Ghan – Marla & Alice Springs

Wake to sunrise at Marla, a remote outpost on the edge of the Simpson Desert. Step off the train to experience the stillness and scale of the outback before rejoining for a leisurely brunch as the journey continues north to Alice Springs. This afternoon, choose from a range of immersive off‑train experiences. Options include a guided town tour, a cultural visit to Standley Chasm, exploring Simpsons Gap, visiting Alice Springs Desert Park, or upgrading to a scenic helicopter flight for sweeping views over the red centre. Return to the train in the late afternoon, with time to relax before dinner is served.

The Ghan –  Katherine – Darwin

Enter the tropical north today as the landscape transforms into escarpments, waterways and lush vegetation. Disembark at Katherine for your choice of experiences. Cruise through the spectacular Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge, learn about regional life at the Katherine Outback Experience, explore the limestone tunnels of Cutta Cutta Caves, or upgrade to a helicopter flight for an aerial perspective of this extraordinary region. Rejoin the train and continue to Darwin, arriving late afternoon. On arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy a relaxed evening at leisure.

Darwin – Litchfield National Park

Travel from Darwin into Litchfield National Park, a Top End highlight renowned for its cascading waterfalls, clear swimming holes and remarkable magnetic termite mounds. Along the way, learn about the park’s unique landscapes and diverse ecosystems before exploring some of its most iconic sites. Visit Florence Falls, Buley Rockhole and Wangi Falls, where shaded forest surrounds and fresh water invite you to swim, relax or stroll along short walking tracks. Enjoy a picnic lunch in a scenic setting before returning to Darwin in the late afternoon after a refreshing day immersed in nature.

Darwin – Kakadu National Park

Journey to Kakadu National Park, a vast UNESCO‑listed landscape of wetlands, escarpments and ancient cultural sites. This afternoon, join the Guluyambi Cultural Cruise on the East Alligator River, learning about the deep cultural and spiritual connections of the local Indigenous people. This evening, gather for a final group dinner surrounded by Kakadu’s wilderness.

Itinerary 
Our tour is carefully designed to give a real insight into the highlights, culture, and beauty of central Australia. Each day will be different, with a combination of sightseeing and free time to explore or take a breather as you wish.

Pace & Fitness
A moderate level of fitness is required. You are required to move about unassisted, including boarding and exiting/disembarking vehicles and other forms of transportation, walking up and down flights of stairs, and navigating occasional uneven or steep terrain. This trip is not suitable for travellers’ requiring wheelchair, mobility scooters or specialised facilities. Other walking aids may be permitted if you are able to move independently and keep pace with the group. Please note that there will be a fair amount of walking and some locations will have stairs. If you have any health concerns, let us know when booking so we can help confirm if this trip is suitable for you.

Transfers
Arrival and departure transfers are not included in this tour.

Meals  
Please notify us at the time of booking of any special dietary requirements and allergies. We will pass on your requirements but cannot guarantee that they can be met as certain choices may be limited or not catered for.

Baggage  
Each person is entitled to a strict maximum of one bag not exceeding 20kg on tour, superseding any other baggage allowance. Excess baggage is not permitted. A light day bag or backpack is permitted on the coach. Porterage is not included, and you are required to carry your own bags. Luggage and personal effects are your own risk, and we hold no liability for lost or damaged belongings.

It’s best to pack everything you’ll need during your train journey in carry-on sized luggage and/or a duffel bag. The cabins have plenty of space for your belongings, but they don’t comfortably fit larger sized luggage. Your larger pieces of luggage can be checked in and placed in the luggage carriage and will only be available for collection at the end of the journey.

Group Size
This holiday will proceed with a minimum group size of approximately 10 people and a maximum group size of approximately 24 people. If the tour does not operate due to minimum numbers, you will be offered a credit or an alternative date.

Sustainability
As part of our commitment to more sustainable travel on our tour, we’re taking steps to reduce single-use plastics. We encourage all guests to bring a reusable water bottle and make use of the potable water refill stations available on our coaches throughout the journey. Alternatively, you can purchase a bottle in destination to re-use.

This tour does not offer optional tours; however, a range of off‑train experiences are included as part of the rail journey and can be pre-selected by guests.

Off‑Train Experiences

Before receiving your final travel documentation, you’ll be invited to manage your off‑train experience preferences directly using your JBR booking reference and the email address associated with your booking. All selected experiences will then be reconfirmed onboard.

For those wishing to further enhance their journey, off‑train experience upgrades are also available to book directly via the online portal.

 

A single supplement charge from $1200 per person is payable in addition to the twin share price for solo occupancy, providing you your own room for the duration of the tour.

Please Note: Solo traveller cabin allocation is only available on certain departure dates, subject to specific cabin allocations and availability.

Exclusions   
Meals not stated, drinks on meals, optional tours, travel insurance (strongly recommended), tipping, personal expenses and anything not explicitly specified are at your own expense.  

Payment   
A first deposit from $299 per person is required to secure your booking. A second deposit (partial payment) is due 5 months before departure – the amount to be advised at the time of booking. The final balance will be due 3 months before departure. Full payment is due at the time of booking for departures within 3 months.

Triple Share   
Triple share is not available.   

Child   
This tour is best enjoyed by adult travellers and is not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Children 12 years and above are subject to the adult price and must be accompanied by an adult.   

Price   
Surcharges may apply for select travel periods and departure cities. Prices are correct at time of publication and are subject to availability, change, cancellation or withdrawal without notice. All prices are in Australian dollars per person twin share unless stated otherwise.   

Change & Cancellation Fees  
Changes for any reason will incur a fee of $110 per person per change in addition to any travel service provider fees. Cancellation for any reason will incur a fee of $550 per person in addition to any travel service provider fees. Travel service provider fees for the tour and air components of the package are dependent on the date of the change or cancellation as follows:   

  • 0-29 days before departure 100% of the tour fee and 100% of the air fee will apply   
  • 30-60 days before departure 65% of the tour fee and 100% of the air fee will apply   
  • 61-99 days before departure 50% of the tour fee and 100% of the air fee will apply   
  • 100-180 days before departure 30% of the tour fee and 100% of the air fee will apply   
  • 181+ days before departure 10% of the tour fee and 100% of the air fee will apply   

 Airfares are generally non-refundable but any refundable ticket taxes will be returned. Full details of the change and cancellation fees is outlined in the Terms & Conditions available on our website.  

Deviation   
Any request to deviate from the original dates or routing, including early arrival and stay behind, is subject to a flight deviation fee from $150 per person plus applicable airfare and tax difference. Packaged tour extensions are not subject to the deviation fee (applicable airfare and tax difference may still apply) if booked according to the original advertised dates and routing.   

Accommodation   
Our hotels names provided are a guide to the standard you can expect. Hotels are subject to change and final hotel details will be confirmed in your documentation 30 days prior to departure.   

Tipping   
Tipping of local driver/guides is entirely at your own discretion. While it is not mandatory, it is always appreciated as a gesture of thanks for excellent service and local insight provided throughout your journey. 

Flights   
The flights included in your package are based on a specific predetermined airfare allowance. Should there be a significant increase in airfares, fuel levies, taxes or government fees at the time of booking flights, then an airfare supplement may be imposed. The flights team will discuss options with you prior to ticketing, should this situation arise. Flights may not operate daily or directly to your destination. No show of any flight sectors will result in the automatic cancellation of all onward flights by the airline.   

Fuel   
In the unlikely event of a significant increase in fuel costs levied by third-party air, land and cruise transportation operators before travel, a fuel supplement may be passed on to the customer.   

Documentation   
Final documentation will be emailed 30 days prior to departure.  

Travel Insurance   
Travel insurance is not included and is strongly recommended. Ask our holiday experts for great coverage options.   

Force Majeure   
Force majeure means any natural disaster, accident, fire, act of God, act of war, terrorism, legally binding judgment, injunction, action of a court or other relevant authority, emergency, unplanned repairs, maintenance, strike, industrial dispute, work ban, blockade or picketing, travel ban, pandemic, epidemic or outbreak of infectious disease, or other event beyond our reasonable direct or indirect control. In case of force majeure or other extraordinary event that prevents safe travel, the supplier reserves the right to adjust, postpone or cancel the trip.
