Expert Insights: Will’s Extraordinary Greenland Expedition

What was your favourite destination that you visited on your Greenland expedition?

My favourite destination on the itinerary was Ikersuaq, Greenland. This is one of the country’s most breathtaking fjords, where massive crystal-blue icebergs drift silently through icy waters. We explored the maze of towering ice by zodiac, getting up close to their striking shapes and intricate patterns.

What was your favourite view onboard MS Fridtjof Nansen?

One of the best views was had from the comfort of my Balcony Stateroom, gazing out over the vast Denmark Strait. Here, icebergs stretched endlessly across the water, with towering mountains in the distance, their peaks softly veiled by drifting clouds. Seals rested peacefully on the ice, undisturbed in their frozen paradise.

What was the best experience you had during your Greenland expedition?

My favourite expedition activity by far was kayaking in Kobbefjord. The view while gliding through the calm, reflective waters surrounded by towering mountains and scattered ice sheets was simply unforgettable. Navigating through the frozen layers delivered a rush of adrenaline, especially as we pushed through the ice, feeling every crack and crunch between the kayak.

What was your favourite thing to do on the ship?

My favourite activity on the ship was to simply unwind on the top deck, nestled by the window, and watch the world drift by during scenic cruising.

What surprised you most about MS Fridtjof Nansen?

I was pleasantly surprised by how incredibly relaxing and comfortable my time onboard MS Fridtjof Nansen was. The ship was cosy and welcoming – almost like it was specifically crafted to let you slow down, breathe and simply await the next adventure.

What was your favourite food or restaurant on the ship?

My favourite restaurant on the ship was Restaurant Fredheim. It was all-inclusive and served up a mouthwatering menu of American-style comfort food – think juicy burgers, crispy chips and tender steak rolls. But the real standout? The milkshakes. Everybody onboard raved about them, and, after my first sip, I instantly understood why.

What is your number one cruise packing tip?

If you have the luggage space, pack enough clothes to last the entire trip – laundry services onboard can be pricey, and there’s nothing better than having fresh outfits ready for each new adventure.
