Arrive Beijing, China - Beijing Airport to Hotel

Embrace the wonders of Beijing, where the Great Wall stands as a testament to resilience, the Forbidden City echoes with the whispers of centuries past, and the historic hutong district offers a journey through time.

Upon arrival at Beijing Airport, you will be greeted by a tour representative and transferred to your hotel where check-in commences from 3:00pm. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

Note: Due to flight times and schedules, some customers may be required to depart the day prior on an overnight flight from Australia.

Beijing, China

Begin your day with breakfast before visiting Tiananmen Square, one of the largest public squares in the world. From there, you’ll proceed to the Forbidden City, the former imperial palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties, dating from 1420 to 1912. This UNESCO World Heritage site served as the political and ceremonial centre for Chinese emperors for nearly five centuries.

In the evening, you have the option to attend the “Golden Mask Dynasty” musical, a spectacular performance that combines dramatic storytelling with traditional Chinese culture. Pricing is 350RMB (approx. 75AUD) per person paid locally.

The Great Wall & Hutongs

After breakfast, you’ll embark on a visit to the Great Wall of China, one of the world’s most renowned architectural marvels. On the way, you’ll stop at the iconic Jade Museum, where you can learn about the cultural significance of jade in Chinese history, a material revered for over 4,000 years. At the Great Wall, you’ll explore the Juyong Pass, a less crowded section offering an authentic experience and stunning views.

In the afternoon, you’ll experience the historical charm of Beijing’s Hutongs (narrow lanes) by pedicab. Your day concludes with a visit to a local family living in a traditional courtyard home, where you’ll gain insight into local customs and enjoy a home-cooked meal.

Itinerary

Each day promises a unique blend of guided sightseeing led by knowledgeable Tour Leader and free time for further exploration or relaxation, tailored to your preferences.

Pace

This Small Group tour maintains a moderate pace, encompassing various prefectures across China, which may entail early starts and lengthy travel days. It’s important to note that many renowned attractions in China can be crowded and bustling, so please stay with your designated Tour Leader/Guide(s) for guidance and assistance.

Fitness

A medium level of fitness is required. You are required to move about unassisted, including boarding and alighting vehicles and other forms of transportation, walking up and down flights of stairs, and navigating uneven terrain and footpaths.

Tipping in China

Tipping in China is a firm and customary element of the tourism industry and is therefore strongly recommended. The expected tipping amount is $12 AUD or 60 RMB per person per day – paid locally to your local English-speaking Tour Leader/Guide per destination/region.

Transfers

Group tour airport transfers are included providing you are arriving on the first and last day of the tour.

Chinese culture

Chinese culture tend to honour tradition, but they also embrace many parts of Western popular culture. Thanks in part to the lasting influence of Confucianism, Chinese customs include a strong sense of family, a deep respect for hierarchy, and an appreciation for harmony over conflict.

Baggage

Each person is entitled to a strict maximum of one bag not exceeding 20kg on tour, superseding any other baggage allowance. One of the reasons is due to the Bullet Train limited luggage space – you must store your luggage in the designated luggage racks onboard the train. Excess baggage is not permitted. You are strongly encouraged to pack lightly.

*Culturally Enriching Cruises are sailings that immerse guests into the local culture of a specific country or region. On these cruises, the vast majority of guests may be from that region, speaking the native language. In addition, guests will experience the local flavor & flare during their time onboard. Some examples are:

  • U.S. Dollars will always be the currency onboard.
