Santiago, Chile

Welcome to Santiago! Nestled at the foot of the Andes Mountains, Chile’s capital is a city of towering skyscrapers, exquisite food and rare natural beauty. Wine lovers should head just outside the city to the San Antonio and Maipo Valleys, where several noteworthy wineries are just waiting to be toured. Enjoy a 2-night hotel stay to explore this exciting city.

Valparaiso, Chile

The adventure of a lifetime awaits you in the UNESCO-listed city of Valparaiso. Embark your 15 day Chilean Fjords expedition cruise onboard MS Fridtjof Nansen today.

At Sea

Today, journey south through the Humboldt Current and pass over the Peruvian Trench – a tectonically active, 5000-foot-deep gouge in the seafloor. The deep water and swift-moving currents bring a variety of wildlife to the area, including Peruvian boobies, brown boobies and various whale species.

Niebla, Chile

Head ashore to the pretty seaside town of Niebla, set on a peninsula with views of Corral Bay on one side and the Valdivia River on the other. Visit the ruins of the old Spanish fort to immerse in regional history and, if the Feria Costumbrista market is on, take the opportunity to try traditional snacks like empanadas, anticuchos and churros.

Castro, Chile

Cruise to the lush greenery of Chiloé Island and visit Castro, the third oldest city in Chile. Castro is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Iglesia San Francisco, which is one of the oldest colonial era buildings in the country and has survived 15 major earthquakes.

Chiloé National Park (Scenic Cruising)

Your expedition continues south through the waters of Patagonia. As you cruise through the scenic Chiloé National Park, keep your eye out for whales, seabirds, seals and more.

Caleta Tortel, Chile

Venture off the beaten path with a visit to the isolated village of Caleta Tortel. Lying at the mouth of the Baker River, a maze of boardwalks connects this close-knit community of just 500 inhabitants. During your exploration, you’ll likely come across locals selling handicrafts and may even be treated to a folk dance performance.

Bernado O’Higgins National Park (Expedition Excursions)

Spend the next two days sailing through the maze of the Chilean Fjords, drinking in the incredible scenery and spotting wildlife along the way. If tidal conditions allow, sail to Puerto Eden, an enchanting village accessible only by sea, home to some of the last remaining members of the Indigenous Kawésqar people. The following day, sail through the White Narrows into Puerto Natales, a striking waterway between islets and sheer rock cliffs, passable only in slack water and daylight.

Puerto Natales, Chile

Wake up this morning in Puerto Natales, gateway to the jaw dropping Torres del Paine National Park. The rugged landscapes of this park features steppe, forest and desert, punctuated by glaciers and lakes, and you can choose to explore it on either a panoramic bus or hiking tour. Look out for Andean animals like guanacos, rheas and pumas, along with Chilean flamingos and the mighty Andean condor.

Chilean Fjords (Scenic Cruising)

Sail back through the White Narrows and into the heart of the Chilean Fjords. Spend the next two days soaking in the beauty and serenity of the Magellan Strait, passing islands, glaciers and steep mountains. Plus, keep an eye out for elephant seals, dolphins and whales, who often swim alongside the ship.

Garibaldi Fjord (Scenic Cruising)

Enjoy a scenic cruise around Alberto de Agostini National Park. Here, the Andes tumble into the Pacific and great glaciers calve ice into beautiful fjords, including the Garibaldi Fjord. If conditions allow, sail into the head of the fjord to reach the Garibaldi Glacier, one of the most impressive in all of Chile.

Puerto Williams, Chile

Soak up the peaceful atmosphere of Puerto Williams, one of the world’s most southerly cities. Take a hike through the gorgeous scenery or drop into the Martin Gusinde Anthropological Museum to check out Indigenous Yaghan artifacts. Kayaking and birdwatching are also on offer, weather permitting.

Cape Horn, South America

Today, cruise through the Beagle Channel and sail down to the southernmost tip of South America – Cape Horn. This is where the open waters of the Atlantic and Pacific collide, creating powerful, swirly waves. Watch out for rare, endemic Peale’s dolphins and other wildlife here.

Ushuaia – Charter Flight to Buenos Aires

Your Patagonia and Chilean Fjords expedition comes to a close today in Ushuaia, capital of Argentina’s Tierra del Fuego Province. Take a charter flight to the colourful city of Buenos Aires, where you’ll enjoy a two-night hotel stay.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Farewell Buenos Aires as you board your flight home, or ask us about our flexible flights and extend your stay.
