Kochi – Munnar (B)

Depart the coast this morning and enjoy the lush scenery on the (approx. 4.5 hour) drive into the Western Ghats to Munnar. There’s likely to be a drop in temperature, so have your jacket ready!
After check in, take a relaxed orientation walk of Munnar and visit to Mattupetty dam.
This morning, take a guided walk around the hills of Munnar. You may come to know how Munnar’s temperatures made the region a favourite summer retreat during the British Colonial era. After some time to appreciate the scenery, return to Munnar for an evening at leisure.

Start today with the morning drive (approx 2.5 hours) to Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve (also known as Thekkady), perched lakeside in the ranges of the Western Ghats. The sanctuary surrounds a picturesque lake, formed from a dam built in 1895. It ambles through the contours of the wooded hills, and is a permanent source of water for local wildlife.
After check in, take a guided orientation walk and visit a nearby spice plantation. Learn about ayurvedic medicinal herbs and locally grown spices, fruits and flowers, as well as the locally used harvesting techniques. Conclude with a delicious included lunch and relax or explore the area at your own pace for the rest of the day.

Periyar National Park (B)

Venture back into the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary early today for a guided nature walk. Look out for bison, wild boar, elephants, spotted deer and the notoriously hard to spot tigers. Optionally take a boat tour on the lake; where you may be lucky enough to see elephants bathing playfully in the shallows. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore this unique region in your own style.
Please note: Tigers are extremely rare and shy in Periyar. It is none the less a lovely park to explore. The local guides are villagers who have lived in the area for generations and are very knowledgeable of the area’s flora and fauna. Bring water, as you’ll start early but it will be hot and humid later in the morning.
The Elephant Court or similar

Periyar – Kumarakom (B)

Travel south to Kerala’s famous backwaters and the serene waterside village of Kumarakom (approx 3.5 hours) this morning. The region is laced with peaceful, coconut palm-lined canals, where houseboats ply the still waters. After hotel check-in, take a short Backwaters cruise before heading out on a guided village walk. This is a great chance to meet and talk with locals to the backwaters, stroll under palm trees and weave in between the rice fields in this unique and tranquil landscape.
Whispering Palms or similar

Kumarakom – Kovalam (B)

Have breakfast at your hotel and drive towards Kovalam (approx 4 hours), a small coastal town south of Kerala’s capital, Thiruvananthapuram. It is one of the oldest tourist enclaves in India, perched on cliffs high above the Arabian Sea overlooking the horizon, which each night glitters with the single lights of dozens of local fishing canoes. At the southern end of Lighthouse Beach is a striped lighthouse with a viewing platform. Take advantage of a full day to relax and explore the beaches, stalls and restaurants of Kovalam.

Kovalam (B)

This morning after breakfast you have option to visit the vibrantly painted ancient Hindu temple of Attukal Bhagavathy.
